Book Review : How to Win A Local Election ![]() by Joe Garecht, Local Victory How to Win a Local Election : A Complete Step-By-Step Guide by Judge Lawrence Grey M. Evans and Company, 1999 (2nd Edition) Paperback, 255 pages How to Win a Local Election is an excellent primer for local political novices. It provides a good overview of basic election technique, presented in an easy to read "how-to" format. While seasoned political operatives will find this book overly simplified, for the candidate running in his first election, it provides a good grounding in campaign basics. In the book, Lawrence Grey teaches campaign fundamentals such as how to get on the ballot, basic campaign strategy, key campaign staff, political advertising, grassroots campaigning and election literature. One of the best features of How to Win a Local Election are the checklists and timetables that are included. They provide a good practical foundation for a campaign's own basic plan. The book also contains excellent chapters describing the functions of each of the campaign's key staff. I would highly recommend How To Win a Local Election to anyone thinking about running in their first local election who is looking for a good overview of local political strategy. Organizations may also want to think about having a copy of this book on hand as a needed resource for members just getting involved in the local political scene.
